Schedule Updates

Major construction on the Albany Avenue project began in June 2017 and is anticipated to be completed in Fall 2020. All travel lanes on Albany Avenue will remain open before 9am and after 3pm. During other hours, partial lane closures may occur. Traffic will be maintained in both directions on Homestead/Westbourne. Business access and pedestrian walkways will be maintained at all times. Week of August 10, 2020

Normal Work Hours: 7:00am – 5:00pm, Monday-Friday*

  • Sidewalk reconstruction continues on the south side of Albany Avenue between Magnolia and Irving Streets. Businesses remain open.
  • Paving behind sidewalks and driveway ramps will occur on the north side of Albany Avenue between Irving and Garden Streets. French’s and Sunoco remain open.
  • Maintenance of plantings and trees will continue throughout the project limits.
  • Traffic Impacts: Follow signs for pedestrian detours during sidewalk reconstruction. During paving operations at French’s and Sunoco, use Irving Street to access French’s parking lot, and use Garden Street to access Sunoco.

Week of August 3, 2020

  • Sidewalk and driveway ramp reconstruction will continue on Homestead Avenue.
  • Full-depth roadway reconstruction will occur during the day on side streets between Oakland Terrace and Bedford Street.
  • Driveway paving will occur in various locations throughout the project limits.
  • Traffic Impacts: Expect lane closures and detours during roadway reconstruction on side streets this week. Follow signs for pedestrian detours during sidewalk reconstruction.

Week of July 28, 2020

Normal Work Hours: 7:00am – 5:00pm, Monday-Friday*

  • Sidewalk demolition continues on the south side of Albany Avenue between Magnolia and Irving Streets. Sidewalk and driveway ramp installation will occur on Homestead Avenue.
  • Brick pavers will be installed between Magnolia and Irving streets on the south side of Albany Avenue.
  • Line striping of the roadway will occur during the day on Albany Avenue and portions of side streets between Oakland Terrace and Bedford Street.
  • Traffic Impacts: Permanent one-way direction changes on Magnolia and Irving Streets are in effect; please be careful to follow the new street signs. Expect partial lane closures and minor traffic delays during roadway striping this week. Follow signs for pedestrian detours during sidewalk reconstruction.

One-way Changes on Magnolia & Irving Street Scheduled for July 27, 2020, 7:00 am

Announcing permanent direction of traffic changes at the intersections of Magnolia Street and Irving Street on Route 44 (Albany Avenue) in the City of Hartford:

Beginning at 7:00 AM on Monday, July 27, 2020, the following permanent one-way direction of traffic changes will take effect on Magnolia and Irving Streets. See flyer and map above.

Magnolia Street will change to a one-way heading north from Homestead Avenue to Albany Avenue. There will be no directional changes on Magnolia Street north of Albany Avenue.

Irving Street, north and south of Albany Avenue, will change direction(s) to flow away from Albany Avenue. North of Albany Avenue, Irving Street will become a one-way heading north toward Mather Street. South of Albany Avenue, Irving Street will become a one-way heading south toward Homestead Avenue.

Parking Info: Instructions regarding on-street parking changes will be posted along all impacted streets.

  • Curb-line paving continues in various locations along Albany Avenue between Oakland and Bedford Streets.
  • Concrete sidewalk and driveway aprons will be installed along Albany Avenue between Vine and Magnolia Streets.
  • Installation of decorative lighting continues on the north side of Albany between Vine and Bedford Streets.
  • Concrete bus pad installation continues on Albany between Deerfield and Magnolia Streets.
  • Traffic Impacts: Expect partial lane closures and minor traffic delays in the area during paving work this week.

  • No construction work will occur on July 3, 2020.
  • Granite curb installation will begin at the intersection of Burton Street and Homestead Avenue. Burton Street will remain open.
  • Installation of decorative lighting continues on the north side of Albany between Vine and Bedford Streets.
  • Curb-line paving will occur in various locations along Albany Avenue between Oakland and Bedford Streets.
  • Utility structures in the roadway will be raised to prepare for final paving between Oakland and Bedford Streets.
  • Traffic Impacts: Expect partial lane closures and minor traffic delays during roadway paving and utility work this week.

LOOKING AHEAD

Nighttime roadway paving, of Albany Avenue and side streets between Oakland and Bedford, is scheduled to begin July 12, 2020. Paving hours will be Sunday-Thursday, 7:00pm-6:00am.

  • Nighttime milling operations will begin Sunday (6/21/20) and are scheduled to end Friday morning (6/26/20). See flyer above for more information.
  • Sidewalk installation will occur on the north side of Albany Avenue between Vine and Magnolia Streets.
  • Granite curb installation will occur between Magnolia and Irving Streets on the south side of Albany Avenue and also at the intersection of Burton Street and Homestead Avenue.

  • Brick paver installation continues between Irving and Magnolia Streets on the north side of Albany Avenue.
  • Fencing installation continues in various locations.
